In the design world, traditional storyboards were often hand-drawn (by those that can draw more the stick figures) and later in applications including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and InDesign.

Two sample PowerPoint storyboards for a course to be built in Storyline 360 are included here:

However, what about more creative storyboards that are also rapid-prototypes?

Animated videos, such as those created in Vyond, are engaging and growing in e-learning popularity. But we all know the adage, ”time is money.”

Audience: Anyone interested in corporate instructional design

Applications: Vyond for animated narration and text to speech voice, Camtasia for video editing

Topic: Why corporations should consider B Corps certification

Rationale: There are two channels activated by effective learning: audio and visual. The trick is not to overwhelm either. Therefore, including a spoken script in an animated storyboard helps those proofing the learning module get a full picture of the contents and actions. While the text to speech voices are quite funny, they do not have much of a place in finalized learning modules. However, they save preproduction and scripting time.

What are your thoughts on modern storyboarding?
